I’ve already posted something before (a long time before) about the Shanghai Expo, here’s another pavilion to rival the Polish one. The expo is shaping up to be a little belter. It’d be great if anyone actually knew what it was for, but it is nice to see people doing fun buildings with little constraints. Makes a change from talking about the credit crunch.

The Dannish Pavillion is by BIG, in association with Arup and 2+1

The idea is that people grab a bike at the entrance and ride it around the ramped runways. They could even take a dip in the pool in the middle – filled with genuine Copenhagen water, or admire the Little Mermaid Statue – a massively recognisable statue in the city. Its the actual statue! Being transported from Copenhagen. BIG designer Bjarke Ingels, brilliantly said “it is considerably more resource efficient moving The Little Mermaid to China, than moving 1.3 billion Chinese to Copenhagen”.

Quite right.

Top stuff.

Seen on excellent Architecture Blog, Arch Daily. Nice one BIG.
